It’s lightly snowing now on the upper mountain, adding a light dusting over a well-groomed base, especially on Thunderhead and Olympic. With an intermittent light wind, the visibility shifts a bit but the skiing is rewarding – Radar and Lakeside should be on your list!
Expect the firm base to soften up through the day and the snow to continue to hold speed and carving turns. On-piste is the call right now. It’s a perfect day for laps with that “carve your own path” feel. Off-piste you’ll find dust-on-crust conditions, so it’s worth holding tight until we stack up more snow.
The forecast is calling for moderate temps, so we’ll continue to see consistent surface conditions and improving comfort as the day progresses. At 10 am, it’s 24 degrees with wind out of the NNW at 2 mph.

This is Jessi with your Blacktail Mountain Report for Wednesday, January 28th. It is currently 28 degrees with winds of 0-5 miles per hour out of the west and visibility is unlimited. Groomers are reporting no new snow and a settled base of 24 inches. We will be sliding today on packed powder and machine groomed runs with the Magic Carpet, Thunderhead, and Olympic lifts in operation.
We continue to ski on the top half of the mountain, Thunderhead skiers and riders will load at the midway station. Early season conditions do exist, please obey all ropelines and closures they are in place for your safety. Our grooming crew is doing an amazing job keeping the corduroy in good shape, come on up and get some turns in!

Daily Details
- The Olympic Chair, Thunderhead Chair and the Magic Carpet are scheduled for operation from 9am to 4pm.
- Daily lift tickets and rentals are available to purchase ONLINE. Save time and money by creating your account and making purchases on our e-store.
- Tickets today are $65 for Adults (25-69), $60 for Young Adults (18-24), $55 for Teens (13-17), $50 for Children (8-12), $40 for Seniors (70+), and $10 Season Pass for Tiny Tots (7 & under) and 5th Graders.
- Muley’s Bar will be open 10:30 am-5 pm, the Grill 10:30-4 pm, Mighty Bites Cafeteria and Blacktail Bean (located in the cafeteria) will be open 8 am-4 pm.
- The rental shop will be open from 8:30 am-4 pm.
- The Blacktail Trading Co. retail shop will be open from 9:00 am-4:30 pm.
- Snow Sports Lessons are available at the window 30 minutes prior to the start of the lesson and there is availability online for future dates.
